Hi Folks,
I've been thinking about this a while, but really can't come up with a decision. So, instead I decided to ask you.
What's your opinion on Google AdSense advertisements displayed on this site to support SETI@Home?
Please cast your vote in the poll and help me make up my mind. I'd also like to hear your opinion in more detail - just click "reply".
Thanks for your participation, Simon.

My take is that whatever can be done to keep the project alive should be done, so I voted for the ads. I'm quite willing to see them and may even follow links if Google does a decent job of figuring out what else might interest visitors here. Joe

While I voted for bad idea I could also have voted for I'd rather donate. AdSense ads may be useful for income but I don't think I've ever clicked one and they make mess of the page. If I'm looking to puchase something, I have a list of known and trusted suppliers.

No one likes to be bombarded by a bunch of ads but we now live in desperate SaH times. I would support anything that helps our favorite hobby. You can always stop supporting the ads at later date when we're out of the woods . . .

Simon, I think you know my stance...( Good idea, I'm all for it.) In fact I sent you a PM about this topic a few weeks ago. For those that are skeptics...go to http://www.boincsynergy.com/stats/index.php, they do a very good job of making the the ads look good. Since Google will pay you for both # of clicks AND number of views based on the advertiser's configuration if it is done tastefully I think it is a good idea. As for me...I click the links whenever I see something of interest....The nice part about Google Adsense is that the ads in each THREAD will be different (and relevant) based on the WORDS on the page. -citroja

I voted for Yes because you have nothing to loose if use Adsense (it is free service), but I think revenue on this way will not be important from lunatics.at without good traffic (at least 100 visitors/day) and seo (I see about 3000 pages only indexed at google/yahoo/msn for lunatics.at). Adsense is working for me with good enough results in money only on groups of sites having over 10000 pages/each and over 500 visitors/day. If you can add Ansense on each setiathome.berkeley.edu page, this may be the Key - there is over 300000 pages indexed and I think a lot of visitors. Anyway, do this. Also, you can take into consideration Yahoo! Publisher - there is more money for less click - if you are in US.

I would assume that Google checks IP addresses, and you can tell them that it was a random person that was doing the clicking....who knows. Good luck let me know how things turn out. -citroja
